I can't wait till 1.3 comes out so I can set up that server faster with the mods and hopefuly the plugins.

So in detail, what more have we heard recently from Mojang and the MC official side of this?

I know the modders here seem to be all a buzz about something, but I haven't caught where they're getting there information, or what might be relative to my current server, or future server expectations. Simply put; just how simple will modding/plugin additions be when they do set it up for 1.3?

The mod API won't be until 1.4 at least.  1.3 will be just like it is now, though mods will likely have 1.3 versions rather quickly as we no longer rely on ModLoader and MLMP.  When MCP updates to 1.3, Forge will release shortly afterwards.

Smbarbour, you forget that client and server are basically the same thing now.  Mods are mostlikely going to need to recode for that, so it may take a while.

You know, this is a bit off topic, but an interesting question I just thought I should ask. (Only because it just occured to me.)

Does the MCPC builds (especially the more recent ones.) use the "testing" Mojang versions of 1.3 Snapshots he puts out? I've assumed 'No' to this, but was an interesting curiousity.  ;D

The MCPC build is based on the current CraftBukkit build. CraftBukkit only supports the current "normal" version of minecraft. So yes, MCPC does not use the snapshots.
